The human peptide transporter 1 (hPepT1 / SLC15A1) plays a critical role in intestinal absorption of di- and tri-peptides, peptide-based drugs and prodrugs such as cephalosporins, ACE inhibitors and valacyclovir. With broad substrate specificity and high expression in the gut, PepT1 is increasingly explored as a target for drug delivery, absorption and therapeutic intervention across antiviral, anticancer and metabolic disease applications.
