We build expression strategies around your protein target, across host systems and production scales, to meet the unique needs of your research or drug discovery program.

Our approach is flexible, precise, and science-led, ensuring your project gets the right foundation from the start.

In our experience spending time on construct design, host cell selection and refining cell culture conditions is time well spent that ultimately leads to earlier delivery of a project. We have successfully used this approach to deliver a wide range of challenging protein targets including soluble, membrane and protein complexes at the quality and scale required for downstream research.

How we can assist you

We offer a comprehensive suite of protein construct design and expression services to support even the most complex discovery programs. Using advanced bioinformatics, diverse host systems, and cutting-edge bioreactor technologies, we deliver high-quality proteins tailored to your goals.

Protein Construct Design

We invest time upfront in construct design to avoid downstream issues and accelerate timelines. Every decision is made with the end use in mind, optimizing for purification efficiency and protein stability.

Protein Expression

Host systems

We work across E. coli (multiple strains), insect (Sf9, Sf21, Hi5), and mammalian (HEK293-6E, CHO-3E7, HEK Expi293) platforms.

Expression Screening & Culture Volumes

We run from 3 mL to 25 L as required. For larger volumes Wave bag reactors are available for insect and mammalian systems, and the Labforce5 bioreactor for E. coli.

Specialized Capabilities

• Uniform or specific isotopic labelling of proteins for NMR with 15N, 13C, and 2H

• Co-transformation or transfection as needed

in vivo biotinylation via BirA co-expression across all platforms

Why Choose Sygnature Discovery for Protein Expression Support?

We take a tailored, science-first approach to protein expression, optimizing protocols to maximize for yield, quality, and scalability —even for hard-to-express proteins. Our teams have deep experience in boosting expression of biotherapeutics and isotopically labeled proteins. We perform small-scale construct scouting to identify the most promising candidates, including challenging membrane proteins. From multi-well plate screening to wave bag and fermentation systems, we ensure seamless scale-up for reliable, large-scale production.

“Wi’ve um girt fowk’ wi cells, wi doa wha’ needs ta be done, ’n’ll sithee reet.”

Roughly translating from the Yorkshire, that reads along these lines…….

“At Sygnature Discovery we understand and value the contribution of every single member of our staff in being able to provide a premium Protein Science offering to our customers. Extending that analogy, our cells team are the foundation upon which everything else is built. Without them there would be nothing to purify protein from, nothing to characterize and we wouldn’t be able to elucidate beautiful protein structures”.
