SfN 2025 – Evaluation of Two Novel Compounds Compared to Methadone on Morphine Withdrawal in a Rat Model of Physical dependence

Exploring Safer Alternatives to Methadone for Opioid Maintenance Therapy

Methadone remains a cornerstone of opioid maintenance therapy (OMT), but its use comes with safety and compliance challenges. This study, conducted with Ensysce Biosciences, evaluates two novel compounds (PF9110 and PF9201) in a preclinical model of opioid dependence.

The results? Both compounds alleviated key withdrawal symptoms without inducing opioid-like behaviors, highlighting their potential as safer alternatives to methadone in treating opioid use disorder (OUD).
