Professor Stuart Paine

Stuart brings more than 20 years of drug discovery experience to his role and has worked in multiple therapeutic areas within AstraZeneca and Sygnature Discovery.

He has driven DMPK strategy from hit to lead to candidate drug selection, pioneering ADME QSAR models and novel in vitro to in vivo scaling methodologies of drug hepatic uptake, metabolism, and renal clearance. Stuart has contributed to 18 compounds entering clinical trials and is co-inventor of ticagrelor, for which he shared the RSC Malcolm Campbell Memorial award. In addition, he has contributed to PK/PD analyses for Phase 1 human clinical studies and IND regulatory submissions. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and given numerous plenary talks.

Stuart holds an award-winning first-class degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from UCL, post-doctoral fellowships from the Universities of Toronto and Cambridge, and currently holds a Professorial Chair in Pharmacometrics at the University of Nottingham.
