Informatics Software Developer – Alderley Park

Sygnature Discovery are looking for a scientifically minded developer with a skillset around web technologies, relational databases and cloud services. As a member of the informatics group, you will be part of an established team, primarily supporting our DMPK activities.  This role would be particularly suited to a recent graduate from a scientific background with strong programming skills and an interest to help shape the way the team conducts software development activities.

Important is the ability to communicate and develop ideas collaboratively across different levels of the business and translate ideas into technical solutions. This also means proactively solving problems and the motivation to seek out opportunities for improvement. The candidate will liaise primarily with DMPK stakeholders, improving on, and developing new solutions according to software development best practices and adhering to company accreditation standards.

Sygnature is embarking on a phase of digital transformation at a corporate level, whilst the informatics team has recently implemented a number of Azure-based applications and microservices into production. There will be opportunities for the candidate to help shape and grow existing solutions, as well as work on fresh projects.

Main responsibilities:

  • You will undertake independent development, defining requirements with internal customers, proposing solutions and developing applications
  • You will support, update and report against database systems and existing applications
  • You will translate functional requirements into designs
  • You will help to create and maintain application documentation (i.e. user manuals, training documents)
  • You will participate in other Informatics related projects, as necessary and assigned
  • You will actively develop skills and keep up to date with new technologies and languages (e.g. Git, JavaScript, Python, UNIX Systems, SQL and cloud services)

Key requirements for the role:

  • You must be comfortable taking on significant technical challenges and be able to demonstrate creativity in solving them. This role would suit a self-starter, confident in your own technical abilities and ability to see projects through to finish
  • Exposure to DMPK in a commercial CRO environment would be advantageous and/or a life sciences background
  • Experience in developing/working with LIMS systems would be beneficial, or working with LC-MS/MS data outputs
  • Good experience in Integrating 3rd party software, modern web applications applications, ELN, SDMS, and instrumentation
  • Some experience of working/programming laboratory automation equipment would be favourable
  • Application development and programming skills in at least some of the following: Python, Ruby, Javascript/Typscript, Excel VBA
  • Web development: Python Django, Flask, Node or similar (ideally with experience working with Flask or Django)
  • Microsoft PowerApps
  • HTML/CSS
  • React, Vue or Angular
  • Git
  • Preference for Azure cloud services
  • Linux
  • Understanding of bioinformatics, data science or statistics
  • Data visualisation

Consideration will be given to other candidates that have demonstrable ability in other modern languages or web frameworks.

In return you will receive an excellent training and benefits package, including a highly competitive salary which is reviewed annually, a bonus scheme, a well-regarded pension scheme, and private medical insurance.
