Computational Chemistry Industrial Placement at Sygnature Discovery

Take the first big step in your Drug Discovery career with a Computational Chemistry Industrial Placement at Sygnature Discovery

Sygnature Discovery is the UK’s largest independent provider of integrated drug discovery resource and expertise. Drawing on the experience of over 380 highly qualified scientists, Sygnature plays a leading role in conducting pharmaceutical research into areas of unmet medical need on behalf of our clients. Computational Chemists at Sygnature Discovery are at the forefront of our scientific research, driving projects with the latest scientific software and cloud-based technology, solving challenging problems for our clients.

In August 2023 we will be taking on Industrial Placement students who will be immersed into working life at Sygnature over the course of a 12-month placement. You will get real responsibility from the very beginning with a dedicated mentor to help develop and utilise your knowledge in our world class laboratory and office facility in the centre of Nottingham. A placement in our Computational Chemistry department will offer an opportunity to work in the exciting field of Data Science and Molecular design, in a growing Computational Chemistry team.

Diving deep into Data Science with the primary focus of finding new drugs, the successful candidate is likely to have strong programming skills, preferably in Python and be studying Chemistry or Physics at undergraduate level.

The placement will involve one or more of the following:

  • Development and validation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning models for important drug properties, for example compound activity
  • Influencing Molecular Design and the Drug Discovery process by facilitating the design of new compounds in an iterative design-make-test process
  • Calculation of binding energies using free energy perturbation methods (FEP) applied to datasets currently of interest.
  • Opportunity to develop work flows to facilitate molecular design in other areas like PROTAC design and validate existing methodologies and or suggest best practices.
